Wise is one option Filipino virtual assistants can check for receiving, holding, converting, or transferring money. The features you see depend on your location, account type, verification, currency, and Wise’s current availability.

Do not send Wise account details to a client just because an old guide says they will be available. First create and verify your account, then confirm which receiving details Wise actually shows you.

If you are still comparing providers, start with How to Get Paid as a Virtual Assistant.

Prepare before signing up

Have these ready:

  • An email address and mobile number you control
  • A strong, unique password
  • A current government-issued ID accepted by the verification screen
  • Your legal name, birth date, and residential address exactly as they appear on supporting documents
  • Any proof of address, selfie, tax, or business information Wise requests for your account
  • A Philippine bank account or supported destination in your name, if you plan to transfer funds out

Accepted documents and features can change. Follow the prompts in the official account rather than sending documents to a person who claims to be support.

Step 1: Open the correct account

Go directly to wise.com or use the official Wise app. Select the country where you actually live and the account type that matches how you will use the service. Do not choose another country to unlock a feature.

Review Wise’s Philippines pricing page before continuing. Account setup, card, receiving, conversion, and transfer charges may differ, so note what applies to the exact features you plan to use.

Use the same legal name across Wise, your ID, your withdrawal bank, marketplace accounts, contracts, and invoices. A nickname or mismatched surname can delay or reject a transfer.

Step 2: Secure and verify the account

Turn on the strongest sign-in verification Wise currently offers. Save recovery information somewhere separate from your phone.

Complete identity checks inside the official app or website:

  1. Enter accurate personal details.
  2. Upload clear images of the requested document.
  3. Complete a selfie or liveness check if asked.
  4. Provide extra information only through the secure account flow.
  5. Watch your account for a request for clearer or additional documents.

There is no guaranteed approval timeline. It depends on the account and whether Wise needs more information. Do not create duplicate accounts to work around a review; use official support.

Step 3: Check which balances and receiving details you have

After verification, open the area for balances or receiving money. The interface will show which currencies and account details are available to you and whether a setup step or charge applies.

Wise’s currency receiving guide explains possible payment types, but your signed-in account is the final check for your eligibility.

If USD receiving details are offered, review:

  • Account-holder name
  • Routing number and account number
  • Account type
  • Supported transfer types, such as ACH or wire
  • Any receiving limits or fees
  • Whether the sender must be a person or business with a matching purpose

Do not describe every USD transfer as ACH. Ask the client or marketplace which rail it uses, then compare that with the details Wise gives you. The Wise receiving-fee page lists current costs by route.

Step 4: Share only the correct payment details

Send the client an invoice and the receiving details generated for the correct currency and transfer type. Do not send your Wise password, one-time code, card PIN, or full identity documents.

Example message:

The invoice is in USD. Please use the USD bank details attached to the invoice and select the bank-transfer type shown there. Before the first full payment, I would like to confirm the route with a small test transfer. Please use my legal account-holder name exactly as written.

Ask the client to include the invoice number in the reference if the payment form allows it. Confirm who will cover any sender-side fee.

Step 5: Test the route

For a new direct client or bank setup, use a small test amount when practical. A test checks the name, routing information, currency, and destination without putting a full invoice at risk.

When it arrives:

  1. Match the payer and reference with your invoice.
  2. Record the amount sent and amount received.
  3. Check whether any fee was deducted.
  4. Confirm that you can transfer or convert the balance as expected.
  5. Tell the client the route is ready before the main payment.

Do not return an unexpected overpayment to a different account. Contact Wise and the sender through verified channels first.

Step 6: Convert or transfer with a live quote

Before converting to PHP or transferring to your bank, Wise should show the exchange rate, fees, recipient amount, and estimated availability for that transaction. Review all four.

Compare the final amount with another available provider if the payment is large or recurring. A fee can change with the amount, currency pair, and transfer method, so a remembered percentage is not enough.

If you have a reason to keep client payments in USD at a Philippine bank, compare the transfer and maintaining-balance costs in the RCBC US Dollar account guide before deciding.

If the Wise card is relevant to you, check current Philippine availability, eligibility, and charges in your account and the Wise card information. Do not assume that every balance or card feature is available to every resident.

Keep the account safe and organized

  • Use a unique password and multifactor authentication.
  • Sign in through the official app or a bookmark you created yourself.
  • Review devices and account activity regularly.
  • Never let a client or “support agent” control your screen or read a one-time code.
  • Save invoices, Wise receipts, exchange rates, fees, and bank credits.
  • Download statements on a regular schedule and reconcile them with your work records.
  • Update your bank and client carefully if your legal name changes.

Troubleshooting

My client says the account details do not work

Check that they used the correct currency, transfer type, account-holder name, and routing details. Do not guess or send alternative numbers from an unofficial message. Ask Wise support and the client’s bank to identify the rejected field.

Wise asks for more documents

Read the request inside your signed-in account. Submit clear, current documents that match your account details. If you are unsure why something is needed, contact official support before uploading.

The payment is pending

Check the transaction status and any action request in Wise. Ask the sender for a bank confirmation, but do not mark the invoice paid until funds are available to you.

The recipient amount changed

Exchange rates and quotes can expire. Review the new quote before confirming. For recurring client work, agree whether your invoice is fixed in USD or PHP so both sides understand who carries exchange-rate movement.

FAQ

Can every Philippine Wise account receive USD bank transfers?

Do not assume so. Check the receiving details and transfer types shown in your verified account and the current Wise Help guide.

Can I use Wise for Upwork or Fiverr payouts?

Only if the marketplace supports the relevant bank details for your account and the names match. Check the marketplace’s current payout rules before adding Wise. Payoneer may also be available; see How to Set Up Payoneer in the Philippines.

How long does verification take?

There is no guaranteed time. Submit accurate, readable documents and respond to requests inside your account. Plan an alternative payment route until verification and receiving features are active.

What if I do not have a bank account?

Check the withdrawal destinations Wise currently offers to your account. Do not promise a cash-out route based on an old list. Compare current options on our tools page.
